Washington Township Cell Tower Deal Nearing Completion
The tower could be built by the end of the year, if all goes smoothly.

The new Washington Township cell tower could go up by the end of the year, Township Attorney Kenneth Poller said this week.Â
Verizon and AT&T will have antennas on the 120-foot-tall tower. Other carriers may be added in the future.Â
Both companies signed their leases and township officials are expected to vote on a resolution authorizing the town to sign at their next meeting. The plan has also received county approval, according to Poller.Â
"They are ready to go," Poller said.Â
The companies were working out details of the construction with the township engineer, he said.Â
Once the tower is up, the township will receive about $80,000 per year total from the phone companies, with the amount increasing slightly each year. Â
The 21-antenna tower will be located in a 68-by-28-foot area behind the flag pole. It will be surrounded by an 8-foot white vinyl fence. There will be a small building inside the fence used to house equipment for the two companies, and room for a second small building if more carriers are added to the tower in the future.
