Vehicular Homicide Charges, Board of Education Candidates, Green Tips and More

Vehicular homicide charges were filed this week in the fatal accident at the Pulis Avenue crossing. Police allege the driver, Jeffery Cohen, an 18-year-old student at Hawthorne High School, was high on marijuana when he drove his Jeep Cherokee into a train on Jan. 24.

In business this week, we visited the Wyckoff PTO Economy Shop, which donates a share of its profits to the Ramapo Indian HIlls School district. Also in business news, local entrepreneurs Bijan Zamanian and Edward Bergen celebrated the one-year mark of their upscale men's clothing store, Something Sophisticated.

In government this week, the mayor and council passed the 2011 budget at its meeting Wednesday night. A vote on a proposed ordinance to require fences around pools that are currently grandfathered exceptions to the uniformed construction code.
