- Over the weekend the city of Albuquerque had hundreds of people within the community attend the annual pride parade, which was the biggest one to date. This was the first parade that was held since the new protection laws were put into place protecting the LGBTQ+ community so it was great to see so many community leaders attending. This year the parade concluded at Balloon Fiesta Park rather than the State Fairgrounds like it did in years past. (KOB 4)
- Albuquerque education leaders are at odds with the new proposal to suspend any K-12 student from school for a year if they were expelled the year before. If this goes into action, the expelled student would not be able to attend any Albuquerque school for an entire year whether it happened in Albuquerque or somewhere else in the country. Although some view it as a great way to promote better behavior and safety within schools others believe this response isn't fair. At this stage it is only a proposal, the school board wouldn't vote for this, it would need to be approved by the superintendent and district cabinet. (KOB 4)
- With recreational marijuana usage being legal in New Mexico for more than a year the state is now launching an education program around safe usage. Albuquerque has not seen a significant rise in issues related to the use of the drug, but it is important to educate users on how to use it safely. The 'Yes and Know' campaign started in 2022 and now has billboards and advertisements going up throughout the month. (KRQE News 13)
