Here are the top three stories in Albuquerque today:
- Samantha Madrid is asking the Albuquerque community for support for both her business and her employees who are now jobless after her business was destroyed in a fire over the weekend. Sakrid Moon relocated to the northwest side of the city last December and was starting to make the new location home. A GoFundMe was created to help the business slowly get back on its feet as well as help the seven employees get by as they will be out of work for the time being. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. (KRQE News 13)
- The Albuquerque Police Department has put together a new division in the police force dedicated to addressing burglaries in the city and focusing on lowering those numbers. A group of detectives specifically dedicated to work on certain types of theft cases and so far in 2023, there has been a 20 percent decrease. In 2022, from January to March over 1,000 cases were reported while in 2023 during the same time period, only 819 were reported. (KOAT New Mexico)
- After more concerns were raised about pedestrian safety in downtown Albuquerque, a proposal has been made to change some of the one-way streets into two-way streets. The proposal specifically points to converting Tijeras and Marquette to two-way streets in the hopes that this will help with traffic congestion and slowly make the routes a bit safer. If the city moves forward with the proposal then the design analysis report and cost estimates will be due by November. (KOB 4)

- Over the weekend, the Albuquerque Fire Rescue wanted to take a moment to recognize the amazing fathers in the department as they come in daily and demonstrate bravery and selflessness to inspire the department.
