Here are the top three stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. The Albuquerque Police Department has taken a new approach to not only hiring new officers for the department but retaining these new officers to serve. There has been an increase in pay for all officers as well as investments in things like upgraded technology. With all the money going into the department, the city's hope is that more people will want to serve the community with the department. (KOB 4)
  2. Crossing guards are partnering with Locker #505 Student Clothing Bank to collect clothing items to donate to children in need. There will be donation baskets set up at 50 different intersections accepting donations with an emphasis on new underwear and socks, other clothing items will be accepted as long as they are in good shape to give to those in need. This event is a big deal for those in need as well as crossing guards as they are more than just an obstacle slowing down commuters in their travels. Crossing guards are a staple in communities and keeping people safe and this event is further supporting their case. (KOAT New Mexico)
  3. On Mother's Day, volunteers gathered at the Sunset Memorial Park's baby section for a service event supporting mothers who have lost their child anywhere from pregnancy to two years old. Hope Mommie's Albuquerque Chapter hosted the event, which bought in around 20 people to clean up the site and support those who are grieving the loss of a child on Mother's Day. Hope Mommie says it aims to hold a service day at Historic Fairview Cemetery this coming fall. (KRQE News 13)
