Any gifting or post-closure transfers can trigger serious administrative or criminal penalties.

Retired APD officer pleads guilty in DWI deception scandal (kob.com) β A retired Albuquerque Police Department officer has pleaded guilty in a federal case tied to a DWI deception scheme involving officers from APD and other New Mexico agencies. Court records say he took thousands of dollars to help a DWI suspect avoid consequences, with a prison sentence of up to 46 months recommended.

Vigil held in Albuquerque for Homeless Persons Memorial Day (krqe.com) β Albuquerque city officials and the Homeless Coalition gathered Wednesday at the ABQ Health Care for the Homeless Memorial Wall for a vigil and silent march to Civic Plaza honoring Homeless Persons Memorial Day. Speakers, including City Councilor JoaquΓn Baca, stressed that the city must do more to support people living on the streets, as nearly 30,000 New Mexicans experienced homelessness or used related services last year.

Japanese cyclist's journey continues after bike theft in Albuquerque (koat.com) β A Japanese cyclist crossing the U.S. had his bike stolen during a brief stop at a Walgreens on Central in Albuquerque, but local residents and the cityβs cycling community quickly rallied donations to help him recover it. After tracking down someone riding his bike and paying $40 to reclaim it, heβs spending a few more days in Albuquerque before continuing toward Los Angeles.

UNM women's basketball opens Mountain West play with a victory (krqe.com) β UNM womenβs basketball protected home court in Albuquerque, edging Boise State 70-63 to open Mountain West play with a win. Four Lobos hit double figures, and a late defensive surge sealed the victory as UNM improved to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in conference.
