Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:
- The City of Albuquerque has announced an increased police presence downtown. The effort is funded by public and private partners to ensure safety during the summer months. The Targeted Enforcement Action Monitoring unit will begin after the Fourth of July holiday. (KSFR)
- Albuquerque's Bernadette Etsitty has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for vehicular homicide. Etsitty struck and killed 18-year-old Roxana Saenz with her car in 2020. Etsitty was going 60 in the 40-mile-per-hour zone after downing a 12-pack of beer. The prison sentence was the maximum allowed by law. (KRQE News 13)
- The University of New Mexico has begun recommending visitors wear masks indoors. The mask mandate was originally lifted on Mar. 19, but a recent surge in COVID-19 infections in Albuquerque has led to its return. The mask mandate does not affect campuses in Los Alamos and Taos. (KRQE News 13)
