Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:
- On Sunday, the Albuquerque Police Department shot and killed a man that refused to drop a firearm. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. and initial investigations believe it was a suicide-by-cop. The individual's firearm was identified as an airsoft gun after the shooting. (U.S. News And World Report)
- The Albuquerque area dry spell was broken this weekend with heavy monsoon-style rains. The area was going through a 78-day dry streak — the 12th longest streak in recorded history for the city. The temperatures will cool off this week in response to the storm. (KRQE News 13)
- The Albuquerque Police Department is offering free VIN ID etchings. The department is etching the numbers into each window during a process that takes about five minutes. The event is in a parking lot off of Montgomery Boulevard. The VIN ID etchings will make it easier for car parts to be tracked if the vehicle is stolen. (KRQE News 13)
