Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:
- Albuquerque's new Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Commission held its first meeting on Monday afternoon. The commission was formed late last year and includes 16 members who range from service provider organizations to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. During the meeting, the commission discussed recommendations for future meetings and its plans to strengthen programs that serve victims of domestic abuse. (KOB 4)
- Mayor Tim Keller recently vetoed a plan by the Albuquerque City Council to put the city's unspent $12 million from the city budget into savings. The money comes from unfilled job positions and operational savings, and City Councilor Brook Bassan was one of the city councilors who believe that money should be put into a reserve while the mayor wants to keep the funds available to use flexibly. (KRQE News 13)
- The Albuquerque Sunport announced that it will be receiving a second $7 million federal grant that the airport will use to update the remaining 21 outdated walkways. Renovations to the jet bridges will include new carpet, interior panels, ceilings, lighting, and updated hallways that connect the terminal to the jet bridge. The bridges are anywhere from 26 to 33 years old, and although they remain structurally sound, they show signs of that age with dim lighting and an outdated aesthetic. (KRQE News 13)
