ALBUQUERQUE, NM β€” New Mexico's statewide indoor mask mandate was lifted Thursday amid declining COVID-19 hospitalizations, according to reports.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham made the surprise announcement at a news conference Thursday, The Associated Press reported.

The governor reinstated the state's mask mandate in August, citing languishing vaccination rates and a rise in cases. The governor said the decision also applies to public schools.
