Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. The Albuquerque Police Department has arrested two individuals following a standoff on Thursday. The incident occurred near Coors and Bluewater at a convenience store located near the intersection. One of the suspects exited a stolen vehicle and barricaded himself inside the store which began the standoff. (KOAT New Mexico)
  2. Albuquerque lawmakers held a community meeting to address the city's public safety issues on Thursday. Everyone was welcome to attend the discussion and learn about law enforcement's continued efforts. The meeting had representatives from the FBI, the police department, and the district court in attendance. (KOB)
  3. Fireworks have been officially banned in Bernalillo County. The ban has been put in place due to ongoing extreme fire conditions. The ban also includes open burning such as campfires and brush fires. Bernalillo County Fire Chief reports that the county is basically just one big tinderbox right now due to drought conditions. (KRQE News 13)

  • The ABQ BioPark shares the treats that its otters are enjoying during World Otter Day. Trout, chicken necks, quail, and eggs were enjoyed by the otters. (Instagram)
  • The Albuquerque Isotopes mourn the passing of Ray Liotta. He visited Isotopes Park in 2008. (Facebook)
  • Albuquerque Animal Welfare is asking for extra blankets and towels for its overwhelmed pet population. Supplies can be dropped off at the shelter's Eastside and Westside campuses. (Facebook)
