Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. Bernalillo County Commission is considering a ban on fires and fireworks this summer. The ban is meant to prevent severe wildfires that can occur due to extreme drought conditions. The New Mexico Governor urged local communities to ban the sale of fireworks last month since she did not have the authority to fully ban it herself. (KOB)
  2. Albuquerque's speed camera system will begin issuing tickets today. The cameras have caught 187,849 vehicles going over the speed limit since they were installed along Gibson and Washington last month. Each citation is for a $100 fine. (KRQE News 13)
  3. The Albuquerque field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation warns families about the rise in 'sextortion' cases. According to the department, the field office has received 107 different reports of sextortion cases since the start of 2022. That is a 143 percent increase. (KRQE News 13)
