Babylon Elementary Presents The Daily Forecast

Students learn about the weather and present their forecasts in front of a green screen just like on television.

Students in the second-grade at Babylon Elementary School got a taste of what it is like to be on television in their classes recently by presenting their own weather forecasts and weather music videos in front of a green-screen.

The second-graders were learning about weather and how certain things like clouds, storms and other meteorological phenomenon form. To top off their lesson on atmospheric sciences, teachers Ms. Brown, Mrs. Cabral, Mrs. Dieterich, Mrs. Gentile, Mrs. Poelker and Mrs. Anderson had their students present forecasts based on special situations and present them like television meteorologists do – in front of a green-screen.

Green-screen technology changes a background, usually green, into another photo or video via a computer. Television meteorologists use these to display forecasts, maps and detail upcoming weather events.
