The question:
This week, a reader wanted to know: Why are the Babylon High School tennis courts locked? The courts, long-open for public use, have been closed for the last few months.

The answer:
Babylon Athletics Director Michael DeJoseph told Patch that unfortunately, the courts have been vandalized by teenaged skateboarders who were entering after-hours and damaging the two school courts on North Carll Avenue.

"We know it's a community resource that people like to use, and it's a great activity," he said. "We hope to open them once we get the vandalism under control."
The junior high tennis team plays on the courts, so when the vandals damaged the courts, it affected their ability to play home games. The kids even cut holes in the fence to enter, said DeJoseph.
