BAY SHORE, NY — Everyone loves holiday events, and there are some lovely ones around Bay Shore this year.
Ring in the holiday cheer with fun for the whole family at the Town of Islip Holiday Market, featuring dozens of craft and gift vendor booths and a variety of food trucks! The holiday market will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Islip Town Hall Parking Lot located at 655 Main St., Islip. Santa’s North Pole Mailbox will be at the market for little ones to mail their letters! A special preview of the Town’s Holiday Light Show will take place at Brookwood Hall from 5pm to 8pm, and Santa Claus will be sure to make an appearance.
The Bay Shore Beautification Society's annual Light The Night festival of luminaries is scheduled for 5 p.m. Dec. 10, with a rain date of Dec. 17.

It's beautiful to see front yards, streets and neighborhoods filled with peaceful light while we're in the longest nights of the year. You can do it yourself or purchase a kit. They're for sale in Bay Shore at Willy Nilly and the YMCA, and at the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Library, Brightwaters Village Hall, Brightwaters Hardware and Dulce de Leche.
Volunteers are helpful too, for assembling and selling kits ahead of time and for helping light up public spaces. To volunteer, email BayShoreBeautification@gmail.com.

The annual tree-lighting event and visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus was on Saturday in Brightwaters. It drew a big and happy crowd. Check out these photos from the Facebook page:
