Boy, 7, Dies In Long Island Swimming Pool: Police

A child from Brooklyn died in a Bay Shore swimming pool on Saturday, Suffolk County police say.

BAY SHORE, NY — A child died in a residential swimming pool in Bay Shore over the weekend, Suffolk County police said.

Kyrie Berry, 7, of Brooklyn, was pulled unresponsive from a swimming pool in Bay Shore on Saturday, police said.

Third Precinct officers responded to a residence on N. Thompson Drive after a 911 caller reported that a boy was pulled from a swimming pool at around 8:25 p.m., police said.

Berry was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The devastating death follows in a line of pool-related tragedies this summer, iclduing the July 5 death of a Brooklyn man in a Wyandanch pool. Before that, a toddler died from drowning in an Islandia pool and there have been other close calls, including a toddler hospitalized after being pulled unresponsive from a Central Islip pool and an adult male found unconscious in a North Babylon pool.
