High Wind Warning Issued For Long Island: What You Need To Know
Power outages are possible and travel will be difficult, the National Weather Service says.
LONG ISLAND, NY — A high wind warning will be in effect overnight on Long Island and power outages are possible, the National Weather Service says.
The high wind warning starts at 11 p.m. Thursday and ends at 10 a.m. Friday. Sustained winds of 30-40 mph are expected with gusts up to 65 mph possible. The strongest winds are likely after midnight.
"Damaging winds will bring down numerous tree limbs, as well as scattered downed trees and power lines," the wind warning says. "Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

Up to an inch of rain could fall on the island through Friday morning. Minor flooding is possible.

The full forecast:
Thursday Afternoon- Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 54. Breezy, with a south wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
Thursday Night- Rain likely, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Steady temperature around 53. Windy, with a south wind 21 to 26 mph increasing to 27 to 32 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Friday- A 30 percent chance of showers before 10am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a temperature falling to around 36 by 5pm. Windy, with a southwest wind 18 to 26 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.
Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 21. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.
Saturday- A slight chance of snow showers between noon and 3pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 41. Breezy, with a south wind 8 to 13 mph becoming west 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Saturday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 16. Blustery.
Sunday- Sunny, with a high near 34.
Sunday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 28.
Monday- Sunny, with a high near 47.
Monday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.
