Suffolk Bank Robber Arrested In Central Islip: Police

A man has been arrested and charged after robbing a Central Islip Bank of America and a Bay Shore TD Bank in August, Suffolk police say.

BAY SHORE, NY — Suffolk police have arrested a man who allegedly robbed two banks in August 22, police said.

Andre Desvignes, 56, of Central Islip, was arrested on Friday after police ID'd him at a traffic stop in Central Islip, police said.

He was charged with first-degree robbery after robbing a Bank of America in Central Islip on August 13 and third-degree robbery for robbing a TD Bank in Bay Shore on August 22, police said.

He was also charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle for driving with a suspended license, police said.

During both robberies, Desvignes verbally demanded cash and threatened violence, police said. Tellers at both banks complied, and he ran away with cash, police said.

Desvignes was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 7, police said.
