Arrest Made Following June 15 Murder of Ocean Hill Man

OCEAN HILL, BROOKLYN — An arrest has been made following the June 15th murder of Ocean Hill resident Robert Thomas, police said.

Thomas, 46, was shot in the head near 207 MacDougal St. on the afternoon of June 15, according to the NYPD.

MacDougal was taken to Interfaith Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

On Saturday, the NYPD announced the arrest of Bushwick resident Derrick Nivens, 38, in connection with the shooting. Police charged Nivens with murder, but he had yet to be arraigned as of Monday afternoon, according to city records.

This shooting occurred in the NYPD's 73rd Precinct. According to official police statistics, through June 19, major crimes were collectively down about 3.5 percent in the 73rd compared to the same period last year.

A total of 16 shootings with 17 victims had been reported through June 19 in the precinct, compared to 25 shootings with 27 victims during the same period last year.
