Bellmore-Merrick Challenge Unites Nassau Students
Special needs students from 11 schools participated in the field day.
Special needs students from 11 Nassau County schools gathered at Sanford H. Calhoun High School to participate in the Bellmore-Merrick Challenge, a field day of fun activities designed to make connections between students from all over the county.
Bellmore-Merrick CHSD has been hosting this competition for 11 years, with approximately 230 participants and 200 student buddies accompanying the athletes during the day. Students competed in a variety of traditional field day activities, including relays, an inflatable obstacle course, jumping competitions and throwing contests.
The student buddies consisted of high school seniors in the Bellmore-Merrick district, including members of the Mepham High School Athletes Helping Athletes (AHA) club. Students in Calhoun High School’s AHA ran the events and presented awards to the winners.
