Merrick Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run

A Merrick woman has been charged in a hit-and-run that killed a man in Freeport Saturday night, according to Nassau County Police.

At 11 p.m., the victim was crossing Sunrise Highway west of Buffalo Avenue when he was struck by a gray Nissan Altima, cops said. The Altima continued heading east on Sunrise Highway and never stopped, police said.

Emergency responders rushed the unidentified victim to Nassau University Medical Center where he died at 11:32 p.m., authorities said.

Stephanie Beeker, 66, was located in Baldwin at 12:32 a.m. Sunday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death, officials said. Beeker will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
