UPDATE: Man Dies After Car Burst Into Flames Following Crash
Witnesses pulled the man from his burning car.

A man has died following a fiery crash Thursday morning on Merrick Road near the Bellmore-Merrick border, Nassau County police reported.
According to detectives, a 66-year-old male was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry westbound on Merrick Road when he was involved in a collision with a 23-year-old female driving eastbound near Soma Avenue.Â
The Camry became engulfed with flames and the driver was pulled from the vehicle by witnesses. Â
The victim was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 7 a.m.Â
The 23 year old female driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Â
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
According to a public information officer, Merrick Road was closed between Soma Avenue and Newbridge Road until around 11:30 a.m.
