NORTH BELLMORE, NY — A Freeport woman has been arrested after police said she stole thousands of dollars from elderly residents at a North Bellmore facility where she worked.
Ashley Atkinson, 22, was a staff member at the AHRC located Bellmore Road and controlled the residents’ money at the facility, police said. She made 37 unauthorized withdrawals out of six vulnerable elderly residents’ accounts, totaling $4,400 for her own personal gain, police said.
Atkinson then falsified business records to try to hide the thefts, which occurred between Feb. 8 and April 4, police said. She was arrested without incident around 3:20 p.m. Thursday.
