Islip Firefighters Rescue 2 Trapped In Southern State Car Wreck

Islip Fire Department rescued two people trapped in a vehicle that crashed on the Southern State Parkway.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — First responders recently rescued two people trapped inside a wrecked vehicle in the trees on Southern State Parkway in April.

According to Chief Jared Gunst from the Islip Fire Department, the single-vehicle accident took place on the eastbound parkway between Commack Road and Islip Avenue.

"Two people suffered non life threatening injuries," Chief Gunst told Patch.

Gunst and the Exchange Ambulance of the Islips responded around 2:45 p.m. on April 18 and utilized the HURST Jaws of Life rescue tool to remove the trapped passenger while EMS treated the passenger and the driver.

Both people were transported to South Shore University Hospital.
