Saint Joseph's Medical Center to Perform Orthopedic Surgery and Robotic Surgery Using New Mako Robot

YONKERS, NY (January, 2024) -- Saint Joseph’s Medical Center announced today that Southern Westchester Orthopedic and Sports Medicine will become a member of Saint Joseph’s Medical Practice. With the acquisition of this practice, Saint Joseph’s Medical Center will now be performing orthopedic surgery and robotic surgery for partial knee, total knee and hip replacements using Stryker’s Mako® Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology.

Led by David Lent, MD, FAAOS and Eric Spencer, MD, FAAOS, Southern Westchester Orthopedics and Sports Medicine provides expert care for the full scope of orthopedic conditions, with specialization in sports medicine, joint replacement, hand surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Lent specializes in orthopedic trauma and sports medicine and works with many local athletes. His expertise extends to joint replacement surgery, including robot-assisted total hip, total knee, and partial knee replacement. He has extensive experience in robot-assisted joint replacement surgery and is an instructor for Stryker's Mako® technology. He is a leader in minimally invasive surgery using advanced arthroscopic techniques, performing procedures such as ACL reconstruction in the knee and SLAP repair in the shoulder. Dr. Lent is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Spencer is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He specializes in joint replacement surgery and hand, wrist, and elbow surgery. His specialty includes nerve compression problems like carpal tunnel syndrome. An expert in advanced sports medicine, he treats many athletes at both the high school and collegiate level for musculoskeletal injuries such as sports-related tendinitis. He excels at surgeries such as Mako® Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology for partial knee replacement and arthroscopic knee surgery.
