BROOKLYN, NY — A fire in a Brooklyn apartment building left one dead and three others in critical condition, authorities said.

The fire started Sunday in a first-floor bedroom in the six-story Gowanus Houses, a NYCHA building at Bond and Wyckoff streets in Boerum Hill.

FDNY officials said the initial report came about 4 p.m. and roughly 12 units with 60 firefighters arrived at the scene.

Police said firefighters entered the apartment by force and discovered four individuals inside: two men, ages 67 and 60, a 51-year-old woman, and a 2-year-old child.

As of Monday morning, the 67-year-old man had died in the hospital. The other victims remain hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.

Firefighters had the fire under control at 4:30 p.m., officials said.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by fire marshals.
