1 Person Injured, Homes Evacuated After Gas Main Rupture In Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY — A National grid worker was left injured and an entire block of homes had to be evacuated after a gas main rupture in Brooklyn on Thursday.
The incident happened at 160 86th St. between Colonial Road and Ridge Boulevard in Bay Ridge around 5:45 p.m., according to the FDNY.
National Grid crews were working on a repair of a gas transmission main in the street when an incident, officials disclosed.

One employee was seriously injured and taken to Lutheran Hospital, according to ABC7 New York.
All occupancies on 86th Street between Colonial Road and Ridge Boulevard were evacuated, the FDNY said.

National Grid crews worked with emergency responders and city agencies at the scene, and shut down the gas. Valves on both ends of the impacted section of the main were closed.
No additional injuries were reported from the incident.
