Actress Allison Mack Released On $5M Bond In Sex Cult Case

Allison Mack posted a $5 million bond and plans to fly to California after her arrest for her connection to an upstate sex cult.

BROOKLYN, NY — "Smallville" actress Allison Mack put up a $5 million bond and plans to fly to California after being arrested last week for her connection to an upstate sex cult run by Keith Raniere, federal prosecutors said.

Mack, 35, agreed in court Tuesday to stay under electronic monitoring in her California home during her case. The actress has been in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center since Friday when she was charged with sex trafficking for her role in Raniere's cult that branded women and forced them to participate in sex acts, authorities said.

For the past 20 years, Raniere ran a purported self-help group called Nxivm out of Albany, federal prosecutors said. Nxivm held promotion events in Brooklyn and Mack created a program called "The Source" that recruited actresses to it.

However, Raniere created a secret society inside Nxivm dubbed "DOS" which operated like a pyramid scheme and required female "slaves" to recruit others and become "masters." Prosecutors said Mack was on the level below Raniere in the group.

Women who joined DOS turned over damaging "collateral" — including nude photos — which "masters" would threaten to release if they told anybody about the group or didn't perform sex acts with Raniere.

Mack allegedly forced women to have sex with Raniere in exchange for financial benefits from him, prosecutors said. They also forced members to get the group's symbol branded on them.

The actress reached out to Emma Watson and Kelly Clarkson on Twitter to try to get them to join Nxivm, the New York Daily News reported.

Mack pleaded not guilty to the charges last week. Federal prosecutors were interested in entering into a plea deal for the case, the Daily News reported.

Raniere, 57, was arrested in Mexico on March 25 and extradited to the United States for prosecution. He faces 15-years to life in prison if convicted.

Nxivm has relocated to Brooklyn since the arrests and members were preparing for "war," the New York Post reported.
