Baby Ingests Cocaine, Brooklyn Woman Charged In NJ: Prosecutor
New Jersey officials charged two people after determining an infant had ingested cocaine earlier this week, including a Brooklyn resident.
BROOKLYN, NY — Officials said a Brooklyn woman and a New Jersey man face drug and child endangerment charges, after an infant ingested cocaine and had to be taken to the hospital earlier this week.
The Bergenfield Police Department received a 911 call on Monday regarding an "infant experiencing a medical episode," said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Officials said the child was taken to an area hospital, where tests revealed the presence of the controlled dangerous substance.

An investigation by the prosecutor's office and the Bergenfield Police Department determined that Raymond Sylvester, 55, of Bergenfield, and Leshawnda Nixon, 33, of Brooklyn, "endangered the welfare of the child in Bergenfield, NJ on one occasion," officials said.
As a result of the investigation the pair were arrested in Hackensack on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and each charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, namely cocaine.

Sylvester, who works as a physical therapist, and Nixon were taken to the Bergen County Jail pending their first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
