Brick From Crumbling Brownstone Kills Brooklyn Woman, 74: NYPD
A woman died after she was hit by a falling brick from a brownstone in Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

BROOKLYN, NY — A 74-year-old woman was killed outside her Brooklyn home after a brick fell from her building's crumbling façade and landed on her head, according to authorities.
Police said Dale Singer was leaving her house on Sixth Avenue near 54th Street in Sunset Park around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the incident occurred.
A brick fell from the framework around the front door of the three-story brownstone hitting Singer on the head, police said.

Upon arrival, police officers discovered her unconscious and administered CPR, an NYPD spokesperson told Patch.
Singer was subsequently taken to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police have notified the Department of Buildings, which will now conduct its investigation. The remaining building residents were immediately evacuated following the incident, authorities said.
Buildings under six stories, including co-ops and condos, are not obligated to adhere to the five-year cycles of the Facade Inspection and Safety Program, previously recognized as Local Law 11.
