Brooklyn Kids Voted On New Names For 3 Pet Tarantulas: Results Here

The Brooklyn Children's Museum hosted the naming competition in honor of Halloween and its new STEM exhibit.

BROOKLYN, NY — It was a competitive race, but the winning names in Brooklyn Children's Museum's tarantula-naming competition for its three fuzzy new pets are Miles, Booyoncé, and Barclay.

When museum officials announced the competition in October, they said they wanted submissions to draw inspiration from Brooklyn, famous Brooklynites, neighborhood characters, heroes in science, and kids across the borough delivered.

Miles, a very acrobatic young spider, has been named for Miles Morales, a fictional Brooklyn teen who follows in Peter Parker’s footsteps to become the new Spiderman in the Marvel movie.
