Cab Driver Shot In The Face In Brooklyn Dies, Case Deemed Homicide

Naveed Afzal,​ 52, was shot in the face while he sat in his car by two unknown men. The suspects remain at at large, police said.

BROOKLYN, NY — The shooting incident of a cab driver in Brooklyn close to two weeks ago has now been deemed a homicide, the city's medical examiner announced.

On June 20, at 10 p.m., the victim, identified as Naveed Afzal, 52, was sitting in a Mercedes-Benz sedan in front of 320 Lincoln Place when two unknown men came from behind and fired a round into the car, which struck Afzal in the face, police said.

The suspects fled the scene on foot, police said.

Afzal was initially transported by to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries and was pronounced dead on June 23, police said.

The two suspects remain at large.

One individual is described as a man with dark complexion and about 18 to 25 years old. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black sneakers.

The other individual is described as a man with a dark complexion and about 18 to 25 years old. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, gray pants and black sneakers.
