BROOKLYN, NY — The identity of the dismembered body found inside a Brooklyn apartment in January has been publicly revealed.

Officials have since ruled Gelzer's death a homicide and charged two people in connection with the crime, authorities said.

The grisly incident came to the NYPD's attention on Jan. 22 when police officers conducting a wellness check in the apartment on Nostrand Avenue between Farragut and Glenwood roads found multiple dismembered body parts, officials said.

After an initial investigation, police arrested Heather Stines, 45, and charged her with concealment of a human corpse, authorities said.

Police said Stines lived in the same apartment where Gelzer's body was found.

Another suspect — 45-year-old Nicholas McGee, who is currently serving time in Virginia for identity theft — is believed to be responsible for killing Gelzer, according to reports.

At the time of his death, Gelzer was couch-surfing and living in the apartment on Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush, compensating the residents with drugs, according to police and the New York Daily News.

McGee told NYPD officers that he killed Gelzer when he refused to pay his rent, according to ABC 7. McGee was indicted Monday in the death and is currently awaiting extradition from Virginia.
