Driver Slams Into 75-Year-Old Grandma, Flees Scene In Brooklyn Crash: Police

BROOKLYN, NY — A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a 75-year-old grandmother just steps from her Brooklyn home Saturday night, then sped off without a trace, police said.

According to the NYPD, Judith Byron was crossing Seventh Avenue at 41st Street in Sunset Park around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, with the walk signal, when a silver SUV blew through a red light and struck her.

The driver didn’t stay at the scene and sped off, leaving Byron critically injured in the street, police said.

Police and emergency responders arrived on scene and rushed Byron to Maimonides Medical Center with multiple injuries, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

No arrests have been made so far, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate.

The Byron family told CBS News they hope nearby surveillance cameras captured the speeding vehicle to help identify and remove the driver from the streets.
