BROOKLYN, NY— Williamsburg's beloved Kellogg's Diner will reopen on Friday after more than a year of renovations, with new owners, a new chef, and a more modern interior.

But, for those who appreciate its retro charm, don't worry — there are lots of nods to the diner's nearly 100-year-long history in the neighborhood, and the menu will still feature all the comfort food classics.

The restaurant is now owned by restaurateur Louis Skibar, who also owns Coppelia, Amarena, Old John's Diner and El Fish Marisqueria, all in Manhattan.

Matthew Maddy and Nico Arze — known for designing airy, contemporary Brooklyn restaurants Public Records and Lilia — redesigned the interior, which now has high curved ceilings, terrazzo tabletops, and a warm, modern atmosphere with retro touches. The iconic blue and silver exterior of the restaurant remains unchanged.

Jackie Carnesi, the new head chef of Kellogg's, has created a menu with all the diner classics, including a herby turkey club sandwich and a hearty chicken noodle soup. She has also included some fun new dishes inspired by her upbringing in Texas, including fried pickles, deep-fried French toast coated in cornflakes, and Tex-Mex enchiladas with red chili gravy.

Before she joined Kellogg's, Carnesi was the executive chef of Nura, the Michelin-recognized Indian-American restaurant in Greenpoint.

At the bar, in addition to wines and beers, a new menu of cocktails dreamed up by Chris Amirault includes a floral lychee Cosmopolitan, a Screwdriver with grapefruit sherbet, and an Old Fashioned with a deliciously smoky toasted marshmallow on top.

Last but not least, the new dessert menu from pastry chef Amanda Perdomo is especially inventive, with bold desserts like Passion Fruit Tajin Icebox Pie passion fruit curd and tajin meringue and Red Eye Chocolate Cake with espresso, chicory coffee, and dark chocolate frosting.

Right now, the restaurant will be open from 5-10 p.m. every night, but will go back to being a 24-hour diner in the next few weeks, the owner said.
