- The NYPD is searching for a group of 12 people who attacked a 44-year-old man at Monday's West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn. Just outside the Brooklyn Museum on Eastern Parkway around 7:00 p.m., the suspects punched and kicked the victim repeatedly, one person slashed him in the torso with a knife, and then the group robbed him. The NYPD says was an unprovoked attack and released a video of the incident. (NBC New York)
- Yesterday, Sep. 9, Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP), Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservatory, and Councilmember Lincoln Restler announced funding will be allocated to renovate and expand the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservatory's Environmental Education Center. Councilmember Restler's office will allocate $470K, and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation will allocate $500K. Councilmember Restler is thrilled to fund the expansion so that "more young people can learn about the ecology, history, and infrastructure of our Brooklyn Waterfront." (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
- Hip-hop mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Block CEO Jack Dorsey airdropped nearly $1,000 in bitcoin to The Marcy Houses residents in Brooklyn. Jay-Z and Dorsey also established The Bitcoin Academy, a free financial and bitcoin education program for residents of The Marcy Houses, through personal grants. Ms. Gloria Carter, Jay-Z's mother and the president and co-founder of The Shawn Carter Foundation, said over 350 people attended The Bitcoin Academy classes. (Black Enterprise)

On Jun. 2, 2022, the New York City Council approved a street co-naming measure to rename Monroe Street between Lewis Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard to Sgt. F.F. Shawn Powell Way in Brooklyn. - Yesterday, Sep. 9, a Brooklyn judge said the federal court system can take $27K from R&B singer R. Kelly's inmate trust account, nearly emptying the account, toward conviction fines associated with his sex trafficking conviction. R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison in June 2022.
