Nearly 20 Injured In Early Morning Williamsburg Blaze: FDNY

BROOKLYN, NY — An early morning blaze in Williamsburg left 17 people injured, fire officials said, with one person in critical condition.

At around 6:30 a.m. on Monday, fire fighters responded to a top-floor fire in a four-story building at 265 Penn St., officials said.

The fire quickly escalated and over 100 smoke eaters responded to fight the flames for over an hour, an FDNY spokesperson said.

Social media images show a massive fire response and multiple ladder trucks staged outside the building.

A total of 17 people were injured, sending one person in critical condition to Brooklyn Hospital, officials said.

Three others with minor injuries were brought to NYU Hospital, with the others treated at the scene by EMS according to FDNY.

Fire officials told Patch that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
