Nurses strike avoided at Brooklyn safety-net hospitals as unions, execs reach tentative agreements • Brooklyn Paper (brooklynpaper.com) — Union nurses at several major Brooklyn safety-net hospitals, including Maimonides, Interfaith, Kingsbrook, Wyckoff Heights and The Brooklyn Hospital Center, have pulled back strike notices after reaching tentative contract deals. The agreements promise better staffing, protected health benefits, wage increases and stronger workplace-violence protections, while talks continue at larger city hospital systems that could still face strikes.
   

2. Mandani's First Big Move to Help Renters Is Dealt a Blow by Court (nytimes.com) — Tenants at a troubled Brooklyn apartment building on Clarkson Avenue face new uncertainty after a real estate firm won an auction to buy it and dozens of other rent-stabilized properties, despite city efforts to delay the sale. With hundreds of open violations tied to the prospective buyer’s other buildings, Brooklyn renters and the new mayor are bracing for a key test of housing protections.
   

3. Defense lawyer ‘subject' of probe as feds investigate possible witness tampering in boxer trial (nydailynews.com) — Federal prosecutors are probing possible witness intimidation and juror bribery tied to a major drug trafficking case being tried in Brooklyn, and have asked a Brooklyn judge to remove the boxer-defendant’s legal team. Witnesses and even a witness’s daughter reported unsettling encounters, and sensitive documents and photos were allegedly found in the defendant’s MDC Brooklyn jail cell, prompting heightened safety concerns.
   

4. Advocating for Disability Rights in Higher Education (syr.edu) — A New York City disability-rights attorney with roots in Brooklyn is helping students and professionals secure fair accommodations on high-stakes exams and in higher education. Her path runs through James Madison High School in Brooklyn and mentorship from a Brooklyn disability lawyer-turned-assemblymember, shaping a career focused on making complex systems accessible for people with disabilities.
   

5. Mayor Mamdani comments on police-involved shootings (ny1.com) — NYPD officers fatally shot two men in separate incidents Friday, including one in Brooklyn, prompting Mayor Zohran Mamdani to call the shootings devastating while stressing the need for investigations. He used the moment to reiterate his push for a non-police mental health crisis unit and also endorsed Claire Valdez over Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso in a key congressional race.
