This NYC Pizzeria Is Best In The World, International Ranking Says

NEW YORK CITY — The verdict is in: The world's top 50 pizza restaurants have been ranked for 2024, and three iconic New York City restaurants have joined the list.

Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City is the No. 1 pizzeria in the world, according to 50 Top Pizza's 2024 guide. The ranking recognizes eateries from multiple countries, including Italy, Japan, the United States, England and Brazil.

Una Pizza Napoletana is known for its simple, top-quality ingredients flipped and stretched to perfection by owner Anthony Mangieri.

"In a country always accustomed to putting everything on pizza, (pizzamaker and owner Anthony Mangieri) proposes only the purest tradition in toppings, with extraordinary quality ingredients," the ranking says of Una Pizza Napoletana.

Now located on the Lower East Side, Una Pizza Napoletana originally moved to Manhattan's East Village in 2004 after serving up pies for eight years in Point Pleasant, according to the eatery's website.

Mangieri relocated the pizzeria to San Francisco in 2010 before returning it to Manhattan's Lower East Side in 2018. Mangieri opened a second location in New Jersey’s Atlantic Highlands in 2020, but it closed in 2021.

Also on the list at number 19 is Ribalta, a Neapolitan pizzeria near Union Square. Since last year, Ribalta has moved two places up on the list, returning to the top 20.

Don Antonio in Hell's Kitchen ranks number 30 on the list for its classic Neapolitan pizzas with a doughy crust. Don Antonio's chef Giorgia Caporuscio also received a special "Empower Women Fedegroup Award" from Top 50 Pizza, "for having inspired female pizza makers all over the world," the organization said.

This year, two Italian restaurants tied for second place: Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples and I Masanielli – Francesco Martucci in Caserta.
