BROOKLYN, NY — Get ready, NYC — a Southern favorite known for its chicken, biscuits, and sweet tea is coming back to the city.

The chain’s first restaurant is expected to open in East Flatbush this winter, with 19 additional locations planned across the city over the next decade. Bojangles last had a presence in New York in the 1980s, though its time in the city was brief, officials said.

The exact address of the new Brooklyn location has not yet been disclosed.

"It’s a monumental moment, now that we’re entering the New York Metropolitan area again,” said Jose Armario, CEO of Bojangles. “The East Coast is craving the authentic, Southern charm that Bojangles delivers, and we’re excited to introduce locals to something new."

In addition to its New York expansion, Bojangles plans to open 35 more locations across New Jersey, where it currently operates a single restaurant in Piscataway. The growth is being led by Hashimi Holding Corporation, owned by Habib Hashimi.

With plans to open more than 50 new locations across the New York City and New Jersey areas, Bojangles is still offering franchising opportunities in key markets, giving entrepreneurs a chance to invest in the brand’s growing footprint, officials said.

"Supporting and leading our franchisees to success is fundamental to our mission as a brand, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what this next chapter holds," Armario said.

Founded in 1977 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Bojangles has built its reputation on its signature Southern-style fried chicken and biscuits, and now it’s bringing that tradition to a new audience in the Northeast.
