BROOKLYN, NY — It may be the middle of the summer, but Tuesday is primary day in Brooklyn's 7th congressional district, which includes parts of Bushwick, Williamsburg, DUMBO, Clinton Hill, BoCoCa, Red Hook and Sunset Park.

In the primary, incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, who has been in office since 1993, is being challenged by Democrats Yungman Lee, a lawyer and community banker, and attorney Jeff Kurzon. There's only one Republican running, Allan Romaguera.
The Democratic race has had some contentious moments. For example, as Park Slope Stoop reported in early June, Councilman Brad Lander, a Velázquez supporter who also represents some of the 7th district's communities, referred to a pro-Lee super-PAC as being the work of "scumbags."
