How do you know the teacher?

Spouse

What does this person teach?

AP African History and a dean

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

She goes above and beyond the call of duty for the kids. She’s a teacher, a dean, a therapist, a life coach. She will answer calls from concerned parents after hours to go over any issues they may have. She has gone outside her duties to find employment for kids, put them in touch with organizations for internships, etc.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

She loves the kids and will do whatever is within her power to make sure they aren’t forgotten. She’s a nurturer who disciplines not to be punitive, but to teach a lesson. Examples include showing movies that deal with race when a racial epithet was spewed by a child. The child learned the consequences of his words and wasn’t just told, "Here’s your detention slip." In the end, he vowed never to use the word and also made sure those around him didn’t either.
