Speeding Driver Dies After Crashing With Dump Truck In Brooklyn: NYPD
A Mercedes Benz driver crashed into a garbage truck making a U-turn in Brooklyn Friday, police said.

BROOKLYN, NY — A speeding Mercedes Benz driver died in a crash with a garbage truck in Brooklyn Friday, police said.
Patrick Donovan, 42, of Brooklyn, was traveling northbound on Gerritsen Avenue approaching Florence Avenue "at an apparent high rate of speed" when he crashed into a private garbage truck attempting to make a U-turn, according to the NYPD.
The garbage truck driver had been traveling southbound on Gerritsen Avenue when the crash occurred about 12:35 a.m. Friday, police said.

Donovan was rushed to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
The garbage truck driver remained on the scene, police said.

Donovan's family told the New York Daily News he was a good father as they lit candles and placed flowers near the crash.
"It hurts,” his brother told the Daily News. “This happened too soon. It’s still so surreal.”
Loved ones remembered Donovan as a generous friend passionate about "anything with a motor."
