Worker Found Dead In Brooklyn Bakery Walk-In Freezer: NYPD

The worker was trapped accidentally in a Beigel's bakery freezer for hours, according to a Daily News report.

BROOKLYN — A worker was found dead inside a walk-in freezer at an East Flatbush bakery Thursday morning, police said.

The employee, 33, was discovered inside Beigel's bakery on Avenue D near East 56th Street just before 9 a.m., said police.

First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The man had been accidentally trapped in the freezer for five hours and was discovered by coworkers arriving to work, according to the Daily News.

The medical examiner will determine cause of death and the investigation remains ongoing, police told Patch.

Beigel's has been serving baked goods since 1934, when it opened in Poland, and in the U.S. since 1949, when the bakery moved to Manhattan, according to the company website.

The company home is now the 50,000-square-foot facility on Avenue D where Beigel's produces "old-world recipes and quality on a grand scale."
