Bruised Child Found In Brownsville Apartment Dies At Hospital

His mother, 26, was arrested and charged with murder on Thursday, police said.

UPDATE Thursday 11 a.m.: Brownsville woman Zarah Coombs, 26, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with murder, cops said. According to the NYPD, Coombs beat her son to death with a stick. BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN— A child who was found bruised and unconscious in a Brownsville apartment later died after authorities rushed him to the hospital, police said.

Police responded to a 911 call at the basement apartment at 121 Riverdale Avenue on Wednesday night and found 4-year-old Zamair Cooms "unconscious and unresponsive" with bruising on his body, police said.

EMS took him to Brookdale Hospital, where he later died. No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing.
