East NY Senior Center Open For Passover For 1st Time Since Pandemic

BROOKLYN, NY — Six senior centers in Brooklyn are reopening for Easter and Passover celebrations for the first time since the coronavirus crisis, including one in East New York.

The Jewish Association Serving The Aging centers will have celebrations for the holidays this month for the first time since the pandemic as part of their recent full reopening for in-person activities, officials said.

JASA senior centers serve 13,000 older adults across New York City with meals, exercise classes, computer literacy training and other activities.

For the holiday, the agency's Canarsie, Starrett City, Brighton Beach, Williamsburg and Coney Island locations will fully reopen Easter and Passover services. The Coney Island location includes the main site and the annex.

Near East New York, the Canarsie center will kick off its holiday celebrations at 10:30 a.m. on April 26. The party will include preparing baskets, gifts and music and entertainment, according to officials.

The JASA Starrett City center will be handing out Passover packages to older adults. A calendar of all events this month can be found here.
