Mayor Breaks Ground On New East New York School
Construction will begin on a 1,000-seat school at 3269 Atlantic Ave. that is slated to open in 2020, officials said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN –– A new 1,000-seat school will be built in East New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday.
Elected officials gathered at the plot of land at 3269 Atlantic Ave. on Monday break ground on a pre-K-through-eighth grade school that is slated to open in time for the 2020 school year.
“We believe every zip code deserves high-quality education,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio at the press conference, “and are proud to deliver on our promise to the people of East New York with this new state-of-the-art school.”

The new school will feature two science labs, a gymnasium with separate exercise rooms, occupational and physical therapy spaces, two art studios, a music room fitted with a soundproof practice space, a school yard with a basketball court and a 1,000-square foot rooftop greenhouse, officials said.
The project is part of the East New York Neighborhood Plan that City Council adopted in 2016 to bring $267 million in capital projects to the neighborhood.
