A Taste of Down Under On South Brooklyn Plates

Let your tastebuds vote for you in the Aussie Lamb Spring Fling contest taking place at two local restaurants.

What's Australian for delicious?

Most Aussie ex-pats in Brooklyn trek to Five Leaves or Pacific Standard for a taste of home by way of gigantic messy burgers and some authentic brews. But those with more refined palates can get a taste of down under this week thanks to a chef competition taking place across New York City.

Meat & Livestock Australia along with online culinary magazine StarChefs.com has launched the Aussie Lamb Spring Fling Contest in which nine chefs in the New York City area will be featuring a special Australian lamb dish at their restaurants from now until Easter Sunday, March 31. Diners who vote for their favorite have a chance to score dinner for 10 at the winning restaurant and two tickets for the StarChefs.com New York Rising Stars Gala on April 11.

As luck would have it, the only two Brooklyn chefs participating in the competition have restaurants in South Brooklyn: Joe Isidori of Arthur on Smith and Elizabeth Falkner of Krescendo in Boerum Hill. So you don't have to go far to get in on the action.

Falkner will be serving Sicilian Lamb Sugo, “Brooklyn Style” while Isidori will offer diners House-made Pappardelle with Spiced Lamb Sausage, Pecorino, and Fried Sage.
