Brownstone Brooklyn Solar-Sharing Group Featured In State Announcement

"Solarize Brooklyn CB6" was recognized at an event in Brownsville.

CARROLL GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn solar energy-sharing group was recognized Thursday at a press conference with Gov. Andrew Cuomo touting advancements in solar energy across New York State.

Solarize Brooklyn CB6 is a group that uses solar panels to share green energy with each other and cut down costs on their power bill. The group operates in Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus and Park Slope.

Solarize Brooklyn CB6 was one of several organizations that got $700,000 from the state's Energy Research and Development Authority for technical and marketing support.

"The Solarize campaigns are helping communities transition to more sustainable energy practices, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering costs," Richard L. Kauffman, the Chairman of Energy and Finance for New York State, said in a press release. "Under Governor Cuomo's comprehensive NY-Sun initiative, New York is driving affordable, clean energy solutions to create healthier, stronger neighborhoods across the State."

The state said these projects have totalled 13.46 megawatts of installed solar and will save people about $2.9 million in upfront purchase costs, with an average savings of $1,743 per installation.
