Buschenschank Will Sling Pies With or Without SBP

When news was announced earlier this week that Carroll Gardens tavern P.J. Hanley's and its adjoining South Brooklyn Pizza outpost will close due to bankruptcy, many expressed grief over the loss of a historical institution and an enjoyable pizzeria.

But those pies will not be disappearing from the neighborhood altogether.

"While we may not keep the South Brooklyn title attached to our restaurant, we have no plans to stop serving pizza here," said a manager at Brooklyn Buschenschank, located on Court Street at the corner of Sackett Street.

The Tyrolean beer hall has promoted itself as a South Brooklyn Pizza pie purveyor since opening in 2012, as one of its co-owners happens to be James McGown—owner of P.J. Hanley's and SBP.

But staff have always maintained that Buschenshank will not be affected by McGown filing for Chapter 11 with his other businesses.
